Cars and locksmiths are getting better
Cars and lockmiths in Chattanooga are getting more sophisticated with the introduction of new locksmith certification programs.
The Chattanooga Police Department says it will offer new certification programs starting in January.
Police officers are now required to wear a certification to access vehicles and lock down their lockdowns.
Police say new training and certification will be offered to other departments across the city.
Police Chief Steve Knepper says there are a variety of reasons for the change, but he says it is about increasing safety.
“We’ve been dealing with this issue for a while now, and it is an important issue for the citizens of this city,” Kneppers told WBIR News.
“We have a lot of folks that work for the Chattanooga Police and that work is part of our job.
It’s part of what we do.”
The department has also been working with the Lock-Down Alliance to develop a pilot program.
The pilot program will be a one-time test.
The pilot program has not yet been completed.
